Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) compared to the City of Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 5.0% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 2.7% for the City of Sydney.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Bayside Council area and the City of Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (52.2% compared to 46.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (20.3% compared to 15.7%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (33.3% compared to 28.8%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (13.4% compared to 10.1%)
