MidCoast Council area’s occupation statistics quantify the broad occupation group in which people work. The occupation classification is generally arranged in descending order by the level of qualification required to perform that occupation, starting with Managers and Professionals and finishing with Labourers.
Differences between females and males are quite apparent in occupation categories nationwide. Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in MidCoast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (3,789 people or 22.2%)
- Professionals (3,663 people or 21.5%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (2,994 people or 17.5%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 10,446 people in total or 61.2% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, MidCoast Council area - Total population employed 15.0% in Community and Personal Service Workers; 16.6% in Professionals; and 10.6% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by females in MidCoast Council area and MidCoast Council area - Total population were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (22.2% compared to 15.0%)
- A larger percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (17.5% compared to 10.6%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (4.8% compared to 14.5%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (0.9% compared to 6.2%)

The number of employed females in MidCoast Council area increased by 2,312 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of females in MidCoast Council area between 2016 and 2021 in MidCoast Council area were for those employed as:

- Professionals (+554 females)
- Managers (+243 females)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+238 females)
