Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Taree in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 17.7% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 27.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 14.6% and 33.2% respectively for MidCoast Council area.
The major differences between the age structure of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (5.5% compared to 3.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 9.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (6.6% compared to 9.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (6.7% compared to 8.8%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Taree's population increased by 492 people (3.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.6% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+163 persons)
- 80 to 84 (+136 persons)
- 70 to 74 (+119 persons)
- 40 to 44 (-106 persons)
