First Nations households may be more or less likely to have access to vehicles in some areas based on socio-economic status and the availability of public transport in the area. The number of vehicles can also be related to the number of adults and older children in the household.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the car ownership in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households in the City of Ipswich in 2021 compared to [POPBMHH] shows that 89.7% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households owned at least one car and 8.1% did not, compared with 90.1% and 7.8% respectively for [POPBMHH] .
Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a larger proportion who owned just one car, a similar proportion who owned two cars, and a smaller proportion who owned three cars or more.
Overall, 31.6% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households owned one car, 36.0% owned two cars, and 22.1% owned three cars or more, compared with 29.7%, 36.1% and 24.3% respectively for [POPBMHH].
The major differences between car ownership for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander households in City of Ipswich and [POPBMHH] were:
