Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Ipswich in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (16,106 people or 15.4%)
  • Retail Trade (10,133 people or 9.7%)
  • Manufacturing (9,554 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 35,793 people in total or 34.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, South East Queensland employed 15.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Retail Trade; and 5.8% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Ipswich and South East Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (9.2% compared to 5.8%)
