Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural West in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (461 people or 14.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (405 people or 12.4%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (328 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,194 people in total or 36.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Ballan Region employed 14.7% in Construction; 11.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 4.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural West and Ballan Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (10.1% compared to 4.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (6.7% compared to 9.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (4.7% compared to 5.8%)
