Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Gloucester and surrounds in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (321 people or 16.3%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (249 people or 12.6%)
- Construction (179 people or 9.1%)
In combination, these three industries employed 749 people in total or 37.9% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, MidCoast Council area employed 4.9% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 19.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.2% in Construction.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Gloucester and surrounds and MidCoast Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (16.3% compared to 4.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (3.7% compared to 1.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (12.6% compared to 19.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.5% compared to 11.1%)
