Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Maribyrnong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2,759 males or 11.4%)
  • Construction (2,458 males or 10.1%)
  • Retail Trade (1,923 males or 7.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,140 males in total or 29.5% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 10.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 15.2% in Construction; and 8.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Maribyrnong and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (6.8% compared to 5.3%)
