Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in South Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (579 people or 23.2%)
  • Retail Trade (296 people or 11.8%)
  • Education and Training (232 people or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,107 people in total or 44.3% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Launceston employed 19.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.8% in Retail Trade; and 9.4% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of South Launceston and the City of Launceston were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (23.2% compared to 19.6%)
