Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in West Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (486 people or 20.8%)
- Education and Training (294 people or 12.6%)
- Retail Trade (224 people or 9.6%)
In combination, these three industries employed 1,004 people in total or 43.0% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, the City of Launceston employed 19.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.4% in Education and Training; and 10.8% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of West Launceston and the City of Launceston were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (12.6% compared to 9.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (20.8% compared to 19.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.6% compared to 3.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (9.6% compared to 10.8%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in West Launceston increased by 148 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in West Launceston were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+162 persons)
- Construction (+80 persons)
- Public Administration and Safety (-74 persons)
