Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in West Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (486 people or 20.8%)
  • Education and Training (294 people or 12.6%)
  • Retail Trade (224 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,004 people in total or 43.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Launceston employed 19.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.4% in Education and Training; and 10.8% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of West Launceston and the City of Launceston were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (12.6% compared to 9.4%)
