Dominant groups
In 2021, there were 73 people who caught public transport to work (train, bus, tram or ferry) in East Gippsland Shire, compared with 13,235 who drove in private vehicles (car – as driver, car – as passenger, motorbike, or truck).
Analysis of the method of travel to work of the residents in East Gippsland Shire in 2021, compared to Orbost, shows that 0.4% used public transport, while 67.9% used a private vehicle, compared with 0.2% and 62.5% respectively in Orbost.
The major differences in persons between the method of travel to work of East Gippsland Shire and Orbost were:
- A larger percentage of persons who travelled by car (as driver) (63.3% compared to 57.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons who did not go to work (11.0% compared to 10.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who worked at home (12.6% compared to 15.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who walked only (3.6% compared to 5.8%)
