Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Canterbury in 2021 compared to Solway Ward shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 14.9% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 24.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.3% and 18.0% respectively for Solway Ward.
The major differences between the female age structure of Canterbury and Solway Ward were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (5.0% compared to 3.2%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (5.9% compared to 4.3%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.1% compared to 4.8%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (2.8% compared to 4.5%)
