Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (627 females or 29.0%)
  • Education and Training (330 females or 15.3%)
  • Retail Trade (218 females or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,175 females in total or 54.3% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Urban Bendigo employed 31.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.6% in Education and Training; and 11.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural East and Urban Bendigo were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in education and training (15.3% compared to 12.6%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (5.3% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (5.5% compared to 8.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (29.0% compared to 31.0%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Rural East increased by 412 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Rural East were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+189 females)
  • Education and Training (+53 females)
