Dominant groups
Analysis of the non-English speaking population in the City of Ballarat in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Ballarat shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.7% of the non-English speaking population was aged between 0 and 14, and 9.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.7% and 18.9% respectively for the total population in the City of Ballarat.
The major differences between the age groups of the non-English speaking population in the City of Ballarat and the total population in the City of Ballarat were:
- A larger percentage of people aged 35 to 39 (12.7% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 30 to 34 (10.6% compared to 6.6%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 25 to 29 (10.6% compared to 7.1%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 60 to 64 (2.7% compared to 5.8%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Ballarat's non-English speaking population increased by 2,469 people (45.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 7.71% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the age groups of the non-English speaking population in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+510 persons)
- 25 to 29 (+335 persons)
- 40 to 44 (+281 persons)
- 5 to 9 (+222 persons)
