Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Ballarat in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Ballarat, shows that there was a higher proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 78.1% of children aged 0 to 4 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 17.1% were in one-parent families, compared with 42.2% and 14.5% respectively for the total population in the City of Ballarat.
There was a lower proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in lone person households was 0.5% compared to 12.9% in the total population in the City of Ballarat while the proportion of couples without children was 0.2% compared to 21.9% in the total population in the City of Ballarat.
