Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in ACT peri-urban area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (226 people or 18.0%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (200 people or 15.9%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (118 people or 9.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 544 people in total or 43.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Yass Valley Council area employed 12.2% in Construction; 19.5% in Public Administration and Safety; and 8.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of ACT peri-urban area and Yass Valley Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (18.0% compared to 12.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (9.0% compared to 7.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (15.9% compared to 19.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (7.7% compared to 9.9%)

The number of employed people in ACT peri-urban area increased by 116 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest change in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in ACT peri-urban area was for those employed in:
