Household type

reset

In the City of West Torrens, 8.0% of households were made up of couples with children compared with 9.9% in Greater Adelaide.

The City of West Torrens's household and family structure is one of the most important demographic indicators. It reveals the area's residential role and function, era of settlement and provides key insights into the level of demand for services and facilities as most are related to age and household types.

This topic breaks down household and family type specifically for those households on low incomes (relative to national averages). There may be correlations with specific household types. For example, an area with many pensioners on low incomes is likely to have a large number of couples without children and lone person households.

Note that household income is connected to household size - the potential for a lone person household to have a high income is less than for a household containing 5 adults. This may skew the results a little to the smaller household types when comparing to the total population, but should not affect geographic comparisons.

To continue building the story, the City of West Torrens's household and family types should be viewed in conjunction with Age Structure and Dwelling Types.
