Dominant groups
The size of the City of Townsville's non-English speaking labour force in 2021 was 8,655 persons, of which 2,899 were employed part-time and 4,774 were full time workers.
Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) of non-English speakers in the City of Townsville in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Townsville shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a similar proportion unemployed. Overall, 93.4% of the non-English speaking labour force was employed, and 3.3% unemployed, compared with 94.9% and 2.8% respectively for the total population in the City of Townsville.
Analysis of the non-English speaking labour force participation rate of the population in the City of Townsville in 2021 shows that there was a higher proportion in the labour force (69.8%) compared with the total population in the City of Townsville (63.6%).
Emerging groups
Between 2016 and 2021, the number of non-English speaking population employed in the City of Townsville showed an increase of 1,821 people and the number unemployed showed a decrease of 178 people. In the same period, the number of people in the labour force showed an increase of 1,560 people, or 22.0%.
