Dominant groups
Analysis of individual income levels in George Town Council area in 2021 compared to Waratah-Wynyard Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people earning a high income (those earning $2,000 per week or more) and a higher proportion of low income people (those earning less than $500 per week).
Overall, 4.9% of the population earned a high income, and 44.8% earned a low income, compared with 6.3% and 40.1% respectively for Waratah-Wynyard Council area.
The major differences between George Town Council area's individual incomes and Waratah-Wynyard Council area's individual incomes were:
- A larger percentage of persons who earned $300 - $399 (13.9% compared to 12.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons who earned Negative Income/ Nil income (8.0% compared to 6.4%)
