Individual Income statistics are an indicator of socio-economic status. With other data sources, such as Household Income, Qualifications and Occupation, they help tell the story of the economic opportunities and socio-economic status of Tasmania. The amount of income an individual receives is linked to a number of factors including employment status, age (as for instance students and retirees often receive a lower income), qualifications and type of employment.

Dominant groups
Analysis of female individual income levels in Tasmania in 2021 compared to King Island Council area shows that there was a similar proportion of females earning a high income (those earning $2,000 per week or more) and a higher proportion of low income females (those earning less than $500 per week).
Overall, 5.1% of the female population earned a high income, and 39.3% earned a low income, compared with 5.1% and 32.7% respectively for King Island Council area.
The major differences between Tasmania's female individual incomes and King Island Council area's female individual incomes were:
- A larger percentage of females who earned $400 - $499 (11.8% compared to 9.6%)
- A larger percentage of females who earned $150 - $299 (6.0% compared to 4.5%)
- A larger percentage of females who earned $1 - $149 (3.8% compared to 2.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females who earned $1,000 - $1,249 (8.4% compared to 10.4%)
