Dominant groups
Analysis of the qualifications of the population in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people holding formal qualifications (Bachelor or higher degree; Advanced Diploma or Diploma; or Vocational qualifications), and a lower proportion of people with no formal qualifications.
Overall, 69.9% of the population aged 15 and over held educational qualifications, and 20.5% had no qualifications, compared with 57.8% and 34.2% respectively for Greater Sydney.
The major differences between qualifications held by the population of the City of Sydney and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of persons with Bachelor or Higher degrees (52.6% compared to 33.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons with No qualifications (20.5% compared to 34.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons with Vocational qualifications (7.8% compared to 14.8%)
Emerging groups
The largest changes in the qualifications of the population in the City of Sydney between 2011 and 2021 were in those with:
- Bachelor or Higher degrees (+39,535 persons)
- Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (+4,820 persons)
- Vocational qualifications (+2,769 persons)
- No qualifications (-1,292 persons)
