Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in CBD and Harbour Village Area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,007 people or 20.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services (855 people or 17.6%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (392 people or 8.1%)
In combination, these three industries employed 2,254 people in total or 46.4% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Green Square and City South Village Area employed 17.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 10.3% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 6.3% in Accommodation and Food Services.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of CBD and Harbour Village Area and Green Square and City South Village Area were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (17.6% compared to 10.3%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (20.7% compared to 17.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (4.1% compared to 7.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (4.3% compared to 6.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in CBD and Harbour Village Area increased by 415 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in CBD and Harbour Village Area were for those employed in:
- Accommodation and Food Services (-202 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+171 persons)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+115 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+78 persons)
