Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to New South Wales shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 7.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 10.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 18.6% respectively for New South Wales.
The major differences between the female age structure of the City of Sydney and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (17.1% compared to 6.8%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 30 to 34 (15.8% compared to 7.3%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (11.1% compared to 5.9%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 10 to 14 (1.8% compared to 6.0%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Sydney's female population increased by 465 people (0.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.09% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 20 to 24 (-4,120 females)
- 35 to 39 (+1,949 females)
- 15 to 19 (-1,799 females)
- 25 to 29 (-1,273 females)
