Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural West in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (285 people or 21.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (152 people or 11.3%)
  • Construction (141 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 578 people in total or 42.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, South Gippsland Shire employed 15.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.4% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural West and South Gippsland Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (21.1% compared to 15.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (11.3% compared to 13.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (5.0% compared to 6.8%)
