More Planning area 1 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Planning area 1 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,439 people or 17.8%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (2,149 people or 11.1%)
  • Retail Trade (2,083 people or 10.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,671 people in total or 39.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Shoalhaven City employed 16.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.8% in Public Administration and Safety; and 10.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Planning area 1 and Shoalhaven City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (17.8% compared to 16.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (11.1% compared to 9.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (9.8% compared to 11.9%)
