Dominant groups
In 2021, there were 9,121 separate houses in the area, 4,485 medium density dwellings, and 51 high density dwellings. In addition, there were 1,451 caravans/cabins/houseboats in the area.
Analysis of the types of dwellings in Central Australia in 2021 shows that 57.5% of all dwellings were separate houses; 28.3% were medium density dwellings, and 0.3% were in high density dwellings, compared with 60.5%, 18.6%, and 10.6% in the the RDA Northern Territory respectively.
In 2021, a total of 86.4% of the dwellings in Central Australia were occupied on Census night, compared to 88.5% in the RDA Northern Territory. The proportion of unoccupied dwellings was 12.5%, which is larger compared to that found in the RDA Northern Territory (10.8%).
