The size of the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander labour force in 2021 was 6,346 people, of which 1,983 were employed part-time and 3,176 were full-time workers.
Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region in 2021 compared to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander of Regional QLD shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a similar proportion unemployed. The unemployed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander labour force was 12.4%, compared with 12.2% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional QLD.
The labour force participation rate refers to the proportion of the population over 15 years of age that was employed or actively looking for work.

Between 2016 and 2021, the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employed in the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region showed an increase of 1,949 people and the number unemployed showed a decrease of 23 people. In the same period, the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the labour force showed an increase of 1,926 people, or 43.6%.
