Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the City of Newcastle in 2021 compared to Newcastle East shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 24.8% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.6% were one-parent families, compared with 14.0% and 7.8% respectively for Newcastle East.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a similar proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 28.3% compared to 31.8% in Newcastle East while the proportion of couples without children was 24.5% compared to 24.8% in Newcastle East.
