Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Deception Bay in 2021 compared to Clontarf shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 86.1% of the population used English only, and 7.3% used a non-English language, compared with 89.2% and 5.8% respectively for Clontarf.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Deception Bay was Samoan, with 1.6% of the population, or 320 people using this language at home.

The major difference between the languages used at home for the population of Deception Bay and Clontarf in 2021 was:

  • A larger percentage using Samoan at home (1.6% compared to 0.3%)

Emerging groups
