Analysis of the car ownership of people born in India in the City of Melbourne in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that 37.2% of people born in India were in households that owned at least one car, while 60.6% did not, compared with 92.7% and 5.7% respectively in Greater Melbourne.
Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a similar proportion that owned just one car; a smaller proportion owned two cars; and a smaller proportion that owned three cars or more.
Overall, 32.1% of people born in India were in households that owned one car; 4.1% owned two cars; and 1.0% owned three cars or more, compared with 32.6%; 41.2% and 19.0% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
