Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Croydon in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (315 people or 12.5%)
  • Education and Training (309 people or 12.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (279 people or 11.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 903 people in total or 35.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Inner West Council area employed 12.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.6% in Education and Training; and 15.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Croydon and Inner West Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.7% compared to 6.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (7.1% compared to 5.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (11.1% compared to 15.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in information media and telecommunications (3.0% compared to 4.8%)
