Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in Inner West Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (1,867 persons or 31.6%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (795 persons or 13.4%)
  • Labourers (740 persons or 12.5%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,402 people in total or 57.5% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 30.5% in Professionals; 12.6% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 12.7% in Labourers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of Inner West Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (11.1% compared to 9.8%)
  • A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (31.6% compared to 30.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (4.5% compared to 7.0%)
