Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Dallas in 2021 compared to Hume City shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 22.8% of the population used English only, and 67.1% used a non-English language, compared with 45.2% and 48.8% respectively for Hume City.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Dallas was Turkish, with 22.3% of the population, or 1,505 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of Dallas and Hume City in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Turkish at home (22.3% compared to 6.1%)
  • A larger percentage using Arabic at home (18.1% compared to 9.3%)
  • A smaller percentage using Punjabi at home (0.4% compared to 5.2%)
  • A smaller percentage using Assyrian/Aramaic at home (3.8% compared to 6.6%)

Emerging groups

Between 2001 and 2021, the number of people who used a language other than English at home increased by 878 or 24.0%, and the number of people who used English only decreased by 627 or 28.9%.

The largest changes in the languages used by the population in Dallas between 2001 and 2021 were for those using:

  • Arabic (+716 persons)
  • Urdu (+263 persons)
  • Turkish (-230 persons)
  • Nepali (+141 persons)
