Dominant groups

Analysis of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service age groups in Gunnedah Shire Council in 2021 compared to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional NSW shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a similar proportion of people in the older age group (65+ years).

Overall, 43.6% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in Gunnedah Shire Council was aged between 0 and 17, and 6.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 40.3% and 6.7% respectively for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional NSW.
