Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Portland in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (682 people or 16.5%)
  • Manufacturing (594 people or 14.3%)
  • Retail Trade (356 people or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,632 people in total or 39.4% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Portland (Central) employed 16.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 14.3% in Manufacturing; and 6.9% in Retail Trade.

The major difference between the jobs held by the population of Portland and Portland (Central) was:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.6% compared to 6.9%)
