Dominant groups
Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the City of Glen Eira compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 4.8% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.5% for Greater Melbourne.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Carnegie and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (35.8% compared to 32.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (47.2% compared to 53.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (16.1% compared to 19.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.3% compared to 8.8%)
Emerging groups
The major difference in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Carnegie was in the age group:
- 80 to 84 (+51 persons)
