The G21 Region's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which people born overseas (who are residents of the G21 Region) work. The work destination may be in the local area or elsewhere.
The type of work done by migrant communities is influenced by their Age Stucture, Qualifications and migration stream. Many of Australia's recent migrants are skilled arrivals who fill identified skill gaps in particular occupation groups. Some older overseas-born communities may be retired, or otherwise not in the workforce. Only those who are employed are included in this topic.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the population born overseas in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (7,151 people or 24.5%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (3,891 people or 13.3%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (3,803 people or 13.0%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 14,845 people in total or 50.9% of the employed population born overseas.
In comparison, the total population in the G21 Region employed 22.2% in Professionals; 14.6% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 13.1% in Community and Personal Service Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population born overseas in G21 Region and the total population in the G21 Region were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (13.0% compared to 10.0%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (24.5% compared to 22.2%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (6.3% compared to 8.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (9.2% compared to 11.1%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed population born overseas in G21 Region increased by 9,272 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of the population born overseas between 2016 and 2021 in G21 Region were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+2,437 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,358 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+1,262 persons)
- Labourers (+1,247 persons)
