More G21 Region male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

G21 Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (17,486 males or 20.0%)
  • Manufacturing (8,168 males or 9.3%)
  • Retail Trade (7,308 males or 8.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 32,962 males in total or 37.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 17.2% in Construction; 10.5% in Manufacturing; and 7.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of G21 Region and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (20.0% compared to 17.2%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.3% compared to 4.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.1% compared to 9.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (9.3% compared to 10.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in G21 Region increased by 16,143 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in G21 Region were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+5,065 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,872 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,469 males)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+1,191 males)
