Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in FNQROC region was 50 to 54 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 1,570 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of FNQROC region in 2021 compared to Cook (S) shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.8% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 18.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.5% and 15.3% respectively for Cook (S).

The major differences between the female age structure of FNQROC region and Cook (S) were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (2.1% compared to 0.6%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 80 to 84 (2.1% compared to 0.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 60 to 64 (6.7% compared to 9.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 30 to 34 (6.5% compared to 7.7%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, FNQROC region's female population increased by 7,037 people (5.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.05% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+1,570 females)
  • 75 to 79 (+1,247 females)
