Analysis of the five year age groups of Douglas (S) in 2021 compared to Cairns (R) shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 15.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.9% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.1% and 15.5% respectively for Cairns (R).
The major differences between the age structure of Douglas (S) and Cairns (R) were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (7.5% compared to 5.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (8.1% compared to 6.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (8.4% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (4.4% compared to 6.2%)
