Analysis of the five year age groups of Mareeba (S) in 2021 compared to Cairns (R) shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 16.8% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.1% and 15.5% respectively for Cairns (R).
The major differences between the age structure of Mareeba (S) and Cairns (R) were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (4.4% compared to 2.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.5% compared to 5.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (7.0% compared to 6.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 40 to 44 (5.8% compared to 6.9%)
