Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils compared to Hinchinbrook (S) shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 4.9% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 8.3% for Hinchinbrook (S).
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Douglas (S) and Hinchinbrook (S) were:
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (39.7% compared to 52.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (5.9% compared to 9.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (8.4% compared to 10.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (5.9% compared to 7.5%)
