Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils compared to Mareeba (S) shows that there was a higher proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 6.8% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.6% for Mareeba (S).
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Cassowary Coast (R) and Mareeba (S) were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (51.4% compared to 48.1%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (8.7% compared to 6.6%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (11.0% compared to 9.5%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (16.4% compared to 15.1%)
