Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in North Sydney Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (8,854 people or 21.5%)
- Financial and Insurance Services (5,458 people or 13.3%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (4,672 people or 11.3%)
In combination, these three industries employed 18,984 people in total or 46.1% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Camden Council area employed 5.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 3.9% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 12.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of North Sydney Council area and Camden Council area were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (21.5% compared to 5.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (13.3% compared to 3.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (4.3% compared to 12.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (2.1% compared to 6.8%)

The number of employed people in North Sydney Council area increased by 3,384 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in North Sydney Council area were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,401 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+758 persons)
- Education and Training (+544 persons)
- Wholesale trade (-543 persons)
