Location and boundaries

The Rural West planning district makes up the western half of Cessnock, with Singleton District lying to the north and west, along with Hawkesbury District in the west and southwest, Central Coast in the long west boundary. More specifically the the first part of the northern boundary runs along Howes Trail, some of Wollombi Road, Coolawine Trail, Mortons Road and Broken Back Trail. The east boundary tracks Broken Back Road, runs through the locality of Mount View, along Bellbird, Cessnock, Kitchener, Quorrobolong and through Olney. The southern boundary largely follows the Watagan Forest Road, the Wollombi Forest Road, some of Walker’s Ridge Road through the Olney Forest, then along the George Downes Drive, Great North Road, Mount Simpson Road, Boree Trak and the Bala Range Trail. The west boundary follows the MacDonald River.
