Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Cardinia Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (8,092 people or 13.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (7,882 people or 13.4%)
  • Retail Trade (5,807 people or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 21,781 people in total or 37.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 9.3% in Construction; 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 9.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Cardinia Shire and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (13.8% compared to 9.3%)
