Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in East Ballina in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (552 people or 20.0%)
- Education and Training (371 people or 13.5%)
- Construction (314 people or 11.4%)
In combination, these three industries employed 1,237 people in total or 44.9% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Ballina Shire employed 18.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.6% in Education and Training; and 10.2% in Construction.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of East Ballina and Ballina Shire were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (13.5% compared to 10.6%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (20.0% compared to 18.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.6% compared to 4.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (9.1% compared to 10.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in East Ballina increased by 272 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in East Ballina were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+124 persons)
- Construction (+80 persons)
