Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in East Ballina in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (552 people or 20.0%)
  • Education and Training (371 people or 13.5%)
  • Construction (314 people or 11.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,237 people in total or 44.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Ballina Shire employed 18.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.6% in Education and Training; and 10.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of East Ballina and Ballina Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (13.5% compared to 10.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (20.0% compared to 18.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.6% compared to 4.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (9.1% compared to 10.5%)
