Dominant groups
Analysis of the family blending in Ballina Shire in 2021 compared to Rural Hinterland South shows that there was a lower proportion of step families as well as a lower proportion of blended families. Overall, 10.5% of total couple families with children were step families, and 3.7% were blended families, compared with 14.1% and 2.0% respectively for Rural Hinterland South.
There were a higher proportion of other families and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of other families was 0.7% compared to 0.0% in Rural Hinterland South while the proportion of intact families was 85.1% compared to 83.8% in Rural Hinterland South.
