In 2021, there were more females working as professionals in the City of Ballarat than any other occupation.

The City of Ballarat’s occupation statistics quantify the broad occupation group in which people work. Differences between females and males are quite apparent in occupation categories nationwide. Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Ballarat in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (7,259 people or 27.4%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (5,233 people or 19.7%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (4,998 people or 18.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 17,490 people in total or 66.0% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, City of Ballarat - Total population employed 22.8% in Professionals; 13.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 12.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by females in the City of Ballarat and City of Ballarat - Total population were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (18.9% compared to 12.3%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (19.7% compared to 13.7%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (27.4% compared to 22.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (4.5% compared to 13.8%)

The number of employed females in City of Ballarat increased by 4,477 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of females in the City of Ballarat between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Ballarat were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,515 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,233 females)
  • Managers (+628 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+565 females)
