Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the non-English speaking resident population in City of Ballarat in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (1,342 people or 31.6%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (713 people or 16.8%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (535 people or 12.6%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 2,590 people in total or 60.9% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, the total population in the City of Ballarat employed 22.8% in Professionals; 13.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 13.8% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the non-English speaking population of the City of Ballarat and the total population in the City of Ballarat were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (31.6% compared to 22.8%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (16.8% compared to 13.7%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (7.0% compared to 12.3%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (5.3% compared to 9.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed non-English speakers in City of Ballarat increased by 1,822 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of non-English speaking residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Ballarat were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+542 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+411 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+251 persons)
- Labourers (+196 persons)
